Applications now open for this FREE programme for schools in Bristol
Bristol Healthy Schools is changing. From December 2017 schools can now apply for 1 or more of the new ‘badges’. These cover a range of health topics from food to physical activity to dental health and will help not just improve pupil health but can impact on attainment and attendance too. If we get children’s health right now, we prevent ill health later in life.
The badges outline best practice criteria and reward the innovative work that schools are doing to improve pupil health and wellbeing. Plus, the new programme brings under its umbrella The Bristol Ideal, the innovative award focussing on healthy relationships, respect and gender equality.
The Bristol Ideal was previously a separate piece of work but is now a badge within the Healthy Schools programme – https://www.bristol.gov.uk/en_US/web/bristol-healthy-schools/our-badges-and-awards/bristol-ideal-badge
Schools can now start working towards the standards which will assess them against the following:
It would be good if local schools in areas of need take up this offer and want to support this from a community perspective so please feel welcome to pass this on to schools you are in contact with and encourage them to work towards the badge.
The new programme is heavily influenced by feedback from schools and was also consulted on with local experts in the different topic fields. While the awards are a focus for the team in Public Health, the Healthy Schools programme is much broader and the team can provide settings with general advice, guidance and free training, regardless of whether schools embark on the badges or not.
