“The distrACT app is a safe alternative to put in people’s hands. So if they’re thinking about self-harm or have self-harmed they can have a resource at their fingertips”
Dr Dominique Thompson, Student Mental Health Expert and GP
The distrACT app provides easy, quick and discreet access to general health information and advice about self-harm. While the app is mainly aimed at young people, it will be useful to people of any age who consider, or already self-harm, their families and other people who provide support.
distrACT has been created by practising medical doctors together with young adults and experts in self-harm and suicide prevention. It is a wide collaboration between Expert Self Care Ltd, Bristol Health Partners, Self-Injury Support, Self-Injury Self Help, Bristol hospitals and universities, as well as other local and national organisations.
The app is available at both the App Store and Google Play – there are links on the distrACT web page
At the launch event the app will be demonstrated and speakers will explore the context of self-harm and suicide prevention both locally and nationally. Individuals and organisations with special interest in mental health are invited to attend as the event will also provide networking opportunities and a forum for discussion.
